2019 Business in the Arts Awards

2019 MABCA Award Artist
Melissa B. Tubbs

Each year, The Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts (MABCA) presents the Business in the Arts Awards to area businesses that have shown exceptional support for the arts. The awards themselves are works of art and this year, Melissa B. Tubbs was selected to create the 2019 awards. Melissa B. Tubbs is an architectural portraitist. Tubbs grew up in an Air Force family, eventually settling in Montgomery, earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University, began a career in commercial design and raised a family. Tubbs became a full-time artist in the mid 1990s. Tubbs uses her pen to document significant works of architecture and decorative ornaments focusing on architectural embellishments, different textures of building materials and dramatic patterns of light and shadows. The 2019 MABCA awards are selected from her official Alabama Bicentennial project, traveling exhibition of 25 pen-and-ink drawings showcasing Alabama’s architectural history. Melissa B. Tubbs received a prestigious Pollok-Krasner Foundation grant in 2019 and has been recognized through numerous commissions, publications and exhibitions throughout the country.

The 2019 Business in the Arts created by Ms. Tubbs, will be on display October 1 - October 31, 2019 in the Alabama State Council on the Arts’ Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery in the RSA Tower 201 Monroe St. Montgomery, AL. For more information please call Ashley Ledbetter 334-263-2224.
